Final Credits
I’m done, finished, complete. There’s not much more to say that hasn’t been posted here except for a couple of “lessons learned” that I thought might be interesting to share. No matter how many projects I do, there’s always something different, something whacky, something out of left field that happens that wasn’t expected. I don’t think I’ll ever “perfect” doing this … I don’t think anyone will. But, that’s what makes it fun huh? So here it goes… in no particular order, the top 3 lessons I learned on...

I haven’t been run over by a train. I’ve handed off all of my media files to my director and the mixer. On Friday afternoon, I pretty well collapsed where I sat after seeing the final file get uploaded to my FTP site. Today, I’m kind of tying up loose ends and cleaning up the files on the system, backing things up, etc… In the end, I think it came out fantastically well. One of the last cues I completed was the ending credits. I was up until 2:30 the night before trying to coble something together. The closing titles of a film are typically a great chance for...

One of the things that I remember from Hummie Mann‘s scoring program was his phrase: “Oooo, I think that’s a bit too rich for the room…” I hadn’t heard the expression before, but I kind of got what it meant and I immediately liked it. We were looking at one of my cues in the program and I’d used some chords that he was thinking might be a bit too out-of-place in the piece. I can’t remember what they were, but in essence, they were either too “jazzy” or dissonant with respect to the rest of the music and the subject matter on...

If you’ve been following my “adventures”, you’ll probably have noticed that I’ve dropped off on the frequency of my posts. Needless to say, I’m busy at it and I believe I’ve pushed past the half-way mark of 1st versions of cues. It’s really all heads-down music-writing now. “Sound” Breakthrough I believe the director and I have broken through on the “sound” of the score. The stuff I’m producing now looks to be on track to be the final candidate stuff. Over the last week or so, there’s been a bit of...

I discovered a new tidbit this morning … my director has an aversion to flutes because of my music. I produced a short opening bumper for one of his other shows that was a web-comedy series about an angel’s “union”. It had a somewhat prominent flute trill in it. I guess, as a result of editing multiple episodes, that sound has given him a bit of flute-itis – a violent allergic reaction to the sound of the flute. Anyway, a bit of a short entry today as I’ve got a lot still ahead of me. Places Everyone! I realized last evening that I haven’t added...
